Its so sad that people have to live with out money, food , or water. It makes me feel that I have a blessed life. I watched this video, the girl effect video, and made me think if these people can go to school theycan succeed just like anyone can. What really made my mouth drop is when I read these facts about poverty
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
I think all kids should be able to go to school A BILLION KIDS WERE UNABLE TO READ A BOOK I feel so bad. I think that those kids should get a chance at an education too.
What do u think about Poverty?

Amanda, those statistics are awful aren’t they. Imagine what the world could be like if there were no weapons and no war between people.

Amanda,
I think poverty is a consequence of human selfishness. It is so difficult to fight the system we are in that the only way to help people out of poverty remain the multiple private and community initiatives that “blossom” around the world.
Many years ago, my students went to a very pour quarter, in our village, during Christmas, to give gifts to the other children.
The small wooden “huts”, the narrow, muddy paths, the ragged little boys and girls, nothing touched them so deeply as an old women, trying to speak to them and tell them how, once, she had been stabbed.
They were indeed shocked by her story, but even more by the fact that she had great difficulty to express herself, she seemed to be in search of words, and her sentences were wrongly built.
Today, there is no more such pour quarters in our small town, but, unhappily, we still have people in need of basic education.

Its so sad what goes on in this world. Even In the USA theres poverty, look at new york seems like such a rich classy place, but tehrres kids and parents on the streets begging for work just for a peice of bread. ITs really sad what goes on. Just recently I was on the highway and theere was a pregnant mother Im guessing about 8months and she had a daughter and her husband. They were all crying begging for food. I really wish I could do something about it. And The worst part is that ehres some people who fake being poor and they dont relize what is really going on througout the world!

Hey Amanda
I’m Nadine from Sydney, Australia, from the 08Allstars, my class.
I had to comment, because I totally understand how you feel, and the same happened here with me, my jaw dropped when I read on a site that “Millions of kids are forced to go in war and fight-most never come back home- when they have absolutely NO idea what they are fighting for.
Thanks for sharing, you have surely raised many signs to the world about Poverty and raised awareness so that next time people pay attention, and donate a coin or too.
HOW AWFULLY SAD! Poverty is awful, and it is not fair at all for a part of the world to learn, and others not to. People can’t just live on the streets and suffer. But the government is quite sure and hope by 2015 all kids in the world will have an education… let us hope this is true!
Nadine
